  • What kind of job would you want to do?
  • How much responsibility do you want to take on?
  • How much time are you willing to spend working during retirement and what hours would you like to work?
  • Do you need to be around people more than to make money after retirement?
Whether you already have a job which you may continue till you desire or want to learn something new. Here are some ideas you can explore in searching for your retirement careers.

Work Longer in Current Job
People who are happy with current job and like to continue working for the same company even after reaching your retirement age then you do not have to retire. Many employers wish to retain their dedicated and productive employees for a longer period. Average age for retirement is at or even before 65. Applicants who enjoy current job and its benefits that go with it then there is really no reason to voluntarily leave.

Phased Retirement
At the age of retirement if you wish to continue with your current job but reduce or change the hours you spend on your job, you can do it with mutual concern of your employer. Not all employers offer phased retirement, but if your employer does not offer you may try to help them design a program that is beneficial to both of you. You can reduce your work hours to working part-time or on a more flexible schedule which would ease into retirement. You can also request your employer to lessen your responsibilities which would obviously reduce stress on the job. In this case obviously you would not mind to go for a pay cut. You will have more free time on hand and in many cases you will be able to keep benefits, including medical which you might now need more.

Transition to a New Career
Look up to your retirement not as an end of your career, but as the beginning of a new and exciting phase of your life. Search for a new job that you really like or do something for which you are passionate about. Now is the time when money is not a priority but position and work satisfaction certainly matters.
